Satu Malaysia Poster

This the assignment 1 for semester 3 "1 MALAYSIA". We are required to design A Typographic Theme Poster for 1 Malaysia. After shilly-shally and have a deep think of the concept of 1 Malaysia, i decided to use the theme "Food".

Reason For Choosing this theme:

Chinese have a famous idiom, 民以食為天, english translation as "people regard food as the sky (as most important)". Food can represent the history and the develop of a country. Malaysia Foods are regard as one of the most unique type because the food itself contain different culture. After several years of development, Malaysia foods has their own style. Although there are still separation of Malay, Chinese and Indian style of food, but a lot changes have make but the Malaysian people to improve their foods quality and knowledge. Now, we can see Chinese food which implant Malay food concept, or Malay food combination with Indian food and others. These not only shows the creativity of Malaysian but also the harmony between different race in Malaysia. They learn from each other and never reject to communicate with each other. That is why Food can represent the harmony of Malaysian. Food make an important part in develop of the history of Malaysia and the most important is Malaysia Foods Taste Good!! LOL!!

Preparation:
After conform the theme of the assignment, i have to think of the concept of my design. I more prefer to design a stylish poster than a default style of poster. In this poster i have only use the typography and u wont find any picture inside it. I choose to design with Adobe Illustrator CS5 as there are no image found in my poster.

A)KLCC (Typo as Image)
A poster without a picture is very challenging and it is hard to make the poster look nice. Therefore i decide to create a typo as image style of the twin tower(KLCC). Firstly i have to draw a KLCC myself.
Step1: Illustrate my own KLCC with pen tool

Step 2: Type the word on the line with Type on the Path Tool

 
Step 3: Create some line with line segment tool

Step 4: Write the food names on the line with Type on the Path Tool

Step 5: Duplicate the tower with drag+Alt 

Step 6: Add words between the 2 tower to act as a bridge

B) Background
For the background, i gonna use grey and black as my main color because it looks cool and stylish.
Step 1: Separate the background to 3 part, create a box with rectangle tool.

Step 2: Build 2 more rectangle and color with black. Here is the background.

Step 3: Create a typo 'Malaysia' with Typo Tool. Arrange the word nicely below the black rectangle to create a stylish environment. 

Here is the background for my poster. Although it is dark but it give a stylish and vanguard mood for the whole poster.

C) Main Tittle

A poster must have a slogan or tittle to attract the eye of a viewer. I choose the slogan "Let's Eat" to show that we can throw everything away and just eat the Malaysia Foods and feel the harmony between the people in Malaysia. We can get to know Malaysia more from the foods. Just Eat, dun think too much. LOL

Step 1: Design the words "Let's Eat" with Typo Tool. Then right click and create outline, after that ungroup and arrange them nicely.

Step 2: Design the Malaysia with Typo Tool. This time, i replace the 'i' with 1 to give the meaning of 1 MALAYSIA concept. This will make the poster looks more unique and interesting.

D) Menu

Because of too many empty space at the left and right side of the poster, I decide to add some little decoration to fill uo the space.

Step 1: Create 5 square box with triangle tool. Color with Yellow and Blue. After that, insert the food name with Typo Tool. This will make them looks like a menu.

 

Step 2: Add shadow for the menu and make them give some effect to improve the view of the poster. Effect> Drop Shadow

E)Quote

Although the poster look complete now but there still look empty at the bottom. Therefore, I decide to put some Malaysia Food Quote. The quote is one of the point which show that how good really is Malaysia Food. These quote is randomly pick in internet. It either come from the blog or article.

Step 1: Type the quote with Type Tool 

Step 2: Arrange them nicely
